56-Year-Old Man Killed in Pedestrian Accident on Ming Avenue near Akers Road

BAKERSFIELD, CA (February 21, 2018) – A 56-year-old man was killed in a hit-and-run collision on the 4000 block of Ming Avenue on Wednesday evening.

The Kern County coroner identified the victim as Lee Joseph Wilson. According to police, Wilson was crossing Ming Avenue at around 6:15 PM when he was hit by what appeared to be a blue Chevrolet pickup truck. The truck fled the scene and police are still looking for the driver.

Wilson was also hit by a second oncoming car but its driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. According to witnesses, several civilians helped lift the second vehicle to pull Wilson out. Officers determined that the second driver was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Lee Joseph Wilson was rushed to a nearby hospital where he later died.
