Student Fatally Struck by Vehicle while Walking on Sidewalk on Mission Road
SAN MARCOS, CA (May 12, 2018) – A graduating student of Mission Hills High School lost her life after a vehicle struck her while walking on a sidewalk. Lauren Wolford was on her way back to school for dance team rehearsal when the incident happened.
Late Saturday morning around 11 AM, a black BMW jumped a curb in the 500 block of E Mission Road and hit Wolford, who was walking back to school after buying snacks from a nearby 7 Eleven store. After striking a tree and slamming into a wall, the vehicle came to a rest.
Witnesses later identified the driver involved as a sophomore student of Mission Hills High who is also a member of the school’s baseball team. Authorities stated that he stayed at the scene to speak with the officers about what might have happened in the collision.
The entire school expressed their grief for the sudden loss of Wolford, who was a month away from graduating. Grief counselors were on the campus to help students and school staff members cope with the mourning.
The crash remains under investigation as authorities try to determine the cause and the contributing factors. No further information is available to the public at this time.
We extend our sincerest sympathies to the loved ones left behind by Lauren Wolford. Family and friends described her as an amazing, beautiful, and smart person. We wish them comfort and courage during this difficult time. May she rest in peace.
