Jose Montoya-Araujo Arrested after DUI Accident on Interstate 205 and State Route 500
VANCOUVER, WA (February 1, 2018) – A three-car collision took place where Interstate 205 meets State Route 500, on Thursday night around 10:37 PM, resulted in two injuries.
20-year-old Jose Montoya-Araujo of Oregon City, was driving a grey 1996 GMC Sonoma pickup truck westbound, when he lost control and crashed into a gray 2016 Toyota Tundra. Driver Kwok Yan, 54, of Portland, and 34-year-old Lance Ford of Castle Rock were standing in the right lane outside of the GMC and assessing the damage of the vehicle
A gray 2008 Mini Cooper traveling west on Highway 500, driven by 36-yr-old Henry W. Baumgartner of Vancouver, crashed into the back of Montoya-Araujo’s GMC truck, and sent it into Ford. Montoya-Araujo and Ford were taken to the PeaceHealth Southwest Washington Medical Center with injuries; there is no update from authorities on their condition. Yan and Baumgartner were not injured in the crash.
Montoya-Araujo’s truck was totaled, and the other two cars were damaged and had to be towed from the road.
According to the Washington State Patrol, drugs and alcohol were factors in the accident. Montoya-Araujo was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, minor in possession, driving with a suspended license, and speeding.
