Possible Street Racing Results in Two Injuries on Smokey Point Boulevard at 116th Street

MARYSVILLE, WA (February 20, 2018) – Two people were injured in an accident that police believe may have involved street racing, on Smokey Point Boulevard at 116th Street.

On Tuesday morning around 7 AM, Kyle Balda was stopped on Smokey Point Blvd, waiting in a white Toyota Sienna to make a left turn into a Shell gas station, when a car traveling northbound at high speeds zoomed past him. The vehicle was traveling around miles per hour in a 35 zone.

Seconds later, another speeding car came towards Balda and hit him, nearly head-on. The light blue Honda sedan lost control and crashed into the speed limit sign on the side of the road. Many pedestrians tried to help the man out of the severely damaged Honda. Both drivers were injured and taken to a nearby hospital.

Balda was treated and released shortly after, but the unidentified driver is still in the hospital, according to news reports. The identity and condition of the Honda driver has not yet been released by authorities.

Police continue to investigate the high-speed crash at this time.

Driving in the speed limit is crucial to your safety and that of other people on the road. Avoid serious car accidents by driving carefully and attentively. Don’t text while behind the wheel, or contribute in distracting activities.
