2 Robbery Suspects Arrested after Long Police Chase in King County

KING COUNTY, WA (November 18, 2018) – A man and woman were arrested after a high-speed attempt to elude the police Tuesday night in King County.

According to the Bellevue police, the incident started just past 10:30 p.m. Tuesday when a person called them to report a man and a woman approached them in their car at Bellevue’s Crossroad Park and demanded money and their car. The victim gave the two money but didn’t give up the car. The thieves then went back to a Honda, which was reported to be previously stolen, and drove off.

Officers responded to the call and spotted the Honda driving erratically near 156h Avenue in the Crossroads area. Officers attempted to pull the suspects over but they sped off.

This led to a chase which involved the Bellevue Police, State Patrol troopers, and officers from Kirkland and Redmond. The pursuit went for several miles and wound through Lake Hills, along Highway 520, and into Redmond and the Novelty Hill area.

As the chase returned to north Bellevue, officers put a spike strip on the ground that punctured the Honda’s tires. However, the car kept going on its rims. A trooper then used a PIT maneuver on Avondale Road which caused the Honda to roll over and stop.

Officers said the man and the woman in the Honda were found to have been smoking fentanyl. Both were taken into custody and then transported to a local hospital to be checked out for injuries from the crash and drug-related effects. It was reported that the 23-year-old man driving the Honda also had a previous felony warrant for his arrest.

Alcohol and certain medications or illegal drugs in the body can impair thinking, reasoning, and muscle coordination which are essential in operating a vehicle safely. It is important to always abide by all driving laws and never drive while impaired as the consequences can be devastating for you and for others.
