Kimberly Sorg and Michelle Kardys Killed, Lex Currie Arrested in Cactus Road Crash

Phoenix, AZ (December 5, 2020) – On Tuesday, 24-year-old Kimberly Sorg and 49-year-old Michelle Kardys died in a DUI crash on Cactus Road and 32nd Street.

Phoenix Fire Captain Todd Keller said the incident involved four vehicles. Also, people in two of the vehicles required extrication.

Lex Currie was extremely intoxicated and was driving at a fast speed when he slammed into the back of a Nissan Maxima.

Then, the Maxima veered off the road and struck a tree.

Fatal DUI Crash

Authorities took a 30-year-old female and a 40-year-old male to the hospital in critical condition.

Additionally, responders also took Sorg and Kardys to the hospital in severely critical condition. Later, both Sorg and Kardys died at the hospital.

“Kimberly was almost done with school to become a nurse. Lex killed a nurse and a homeopath. A doctor of natural medicine. It can’t really get much worse than that. Two people who loved to help people, and he killed them,” said Nick Kardys.

Furthermore, relatives said Kardys and Sorg were with Dennis Kardys when he was driving his new car. Kardys was Dennis’ mother, and Sorg was Dennis’ girlfriend.

Dennis sustained head injuries and several broken bones.

“Dennis had that car for less than 12 hours. His mom wanted to go for a test drive, and they got a mile and a half down the road and this happened,” Nick said.

Meanwhile, police said Currie’s blood alcohol content was over 0.30, and he was driving nearly 100mph before he crashed. While the posted speed limit on 32nd Street is 40mph.

He is accused of second-degree murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and endangerment.

Moreover, authorities released Currie from jail after he posted the $250,000 bond.

“I’ll never forgive him, and I’ll never forget,” said Nick. “This is something that’s going to be painful for my family for the rest of our lives.”

Similarly, a memorial for Kardys and Sorg was set up at the crash site.
