Former USC and NFL Football Player Fatally Struck on a San Fernando Valley Freeway

SAN FERNANDO VALLEY, CA (October 4, 2018) – Former USC and NFL football player, 31-year-old Kevin Ellison, was killed in a pedestrian accident on Thursday evening.

According to reports from the California Highway Patrol, they received calls about a pedestrian that was walking across the 5 freeway. USC confirmed Ellison’ death in a social media post with the hashtag #FightOnForever.

Chris Ellison, the victim’s brother, reported that his brother was walking along the 5 Freeway at the time of his death. He added that Kevin was disoriented and did not know where he was, and might have been trying to come home to find his family. He also shared that his brother struggled with mental health issues in recent years.

No cause of death was listed and an exam is pending at this time. Events leading up to the fatal crash are unclear.

It was also reported that Ellison’s family is planning to donate his brain to Boston University researchers who are studying chronic traumatic encephalopathy. CTE is associated with repeated brain damage, including concussions suffered by football players.
