4-Year-Old Boy Killed in SUV-Ambulance Collision in California City
CALIFORNIA CITY, CA (April 27, 2018) – A 4-year-old boy died in a DUI crash on California City Boulevard when a Hall Ambulance and the Chevrolet Tahoe SUV he was riding in collided, early Friday morning.
According to Hall officials, the SUV crossed over into coming traffic, crashing into the ambulance head-on. The Chevy Tahoe appeared to have side-swiped the ambulance, which caused both vehicles to lose control.
There were no patients inside the ambulance at the time, but a paramedic and EMT inside the ambulance were taken to a nearby hospital with minor to moderate injuries, including a fractured knee. A child, identified as 4-year-old Keandre Zayah Lewis Taylor of Lancaster, was ejected from the SUV and died at the scene.
The 31-year-old driver of the Tahoe, identified as Keith Zeldon Taylor of Palmdale, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. Police believe that the 4-year-old passenger in the Tahoe was Taylor’s son. Officials discovered alcoholic beverages, marijuana and a meth pipe in the SUV, and Taylor was arrested for felony drunk driving, vehicular manslaughter, and child endangerment leading to death.
Cal City Fire, Kern County Fire, Mercy Air and California Highway Patrol assisted with the collision. The crash is still under investigation at this time.
