2 Dead in Lake Balboa Auto Accident on N Balboa Boulevard and Victory Boulevard

 
LAKE BALBOA, CA (February 9, 2023) – Early Wednesday morning, Kathy Chavez died in a speeding crash on N Balboa Boulevard and Victory Boulevard.
 
The incident happened at around 3:46 a.m. in 6400 N Balboa Boulevard and Victory Boulevard.
 
According to reports, a Chevrolet Corvette traveled at a high rate of speed northbound on Balboa. Then, it crashed with the Honda Accord traveling eastbound on Victory.
 
Officers believed that the Corvette drove through a red light.
 
Meanwhile, the female Honda driver, Kathy Chavez, succumbed to injuries at the scene. LAPD said that she was in her mid-20s.
 
Moreover, the crash trapped the male Corvette driver and a male passenger in the vehicle. Then, responders took both of them to a hospital in critical condition.
 
Officers noted that the driver later died at the hospital. Meanwhile, the male passenger suffered severe injuries, including broken ankles.
 
Officers said that the Corvette might have traveled at speeds of 90-100 mph at the time of the crash.
 
The impact sent two vehicles toward the northeast corner of the intersection. Also, the debris from the incident damaged a strip-mall sign on the corner and nearby businesses.
 
Family members told KCAL News one of the victims is Kathy Chavez, a mother of four. A vigil was held Wednesday night.
 
Due to the limited information available, the authorities continued to investigate the crash.
