Gig Harbor Man Karl Ortiz Killed in Vehicle Crash on State Route 18 [Auburn, WA]

Auburn, WA (May 13, 2023) – Shortly before midnight on Thursday, Karl Ortiz, a 27-year-old Gig Harbor man, lost his life following a vehicle crash on State Route 18.

The authorities immediately responded to the crash scene near 312th Street.

Officers said one of the involved vehicles was westbound on the freeway in the eastbound lanes. That vehicle struck the vehicle driven by Ortiz head-on. Ortiz’s vehicle struck a barrier and come to rest in a lane. 

Moreover, a third car drove over debris from the collision and punctured a tire.

The accident report said both of the cars involved in the accident were severely mangled. 

Unfortunately, Karl Ortiz died at the crash scene.

Meanwhile, the Washington State Patrol said the 38-year-old Bellevue man caused the accident. The a authorities arrested him on suspicion of vehicular homicide and driving under the influence.
