Elderly Woman Dies in Pedestrian Collision near Bridgeport Way

LAKEWOOD, WA (November 14, 2018) – A woman in her late 60s was killed in a car crash on 86th Street Southwestern, early Wednesday afternoon. The victim was later identified as Karen McMillion.

According to the Washington State Patrol, the collision took place at approximately 12:30 PM, near Bridgeport Way Southwestern. Reports showed that a Dodge Durango SUV ran a red light, swerved to avoid a patrol car, then lost control, and hit the victim who was walking with a companion along the sidewalk.

An officer at the scene called for help, he ran to the victim and started CPR. Other officials and medics soon arrived and continued lifesaving efforts, but McMillion was pronounced dead on site. Her companion was not injured.

Preliminary investigation showed that the car was traveling about 40 to 50 mph and did not appear to be slowing as it ran the red light. The driver, David Matthew Scott, 43, stated that the traffic light was yellow and that he going 15 mph. The suspect also claimed he had drunk one Bloody Mary earlier in the day, but his blood-alcohol content came back zero after a breath test. Scott was booked into the Pierce County Jail for investigation of vehicular homicide.

Officials ordered a clean-up at the scene and began their investigation, but no additional information has been released to the public at this time.
