2 People Dead in Bakersfield Auto Accident on Highway 178 near Kelso Valley Road
BAKERSFIELD, CA (October 12, 2023) – On Saturday, Justin Curran sustained injuries in a fatal multi-vehicle crash on Highway 178 near Kelso Valley Road.
The incident happened along Highway 178, west of Kelso Valley Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a westbound 1992 Geo crossed the double yellow line and collided with an eastbound 2013 BMW motorcycle and an eastbound 2019 Yamaha motorcycle. Then, the force of the crash pushed the Geo to rotate out of control and collide with a Kern County Sheriff’s patrol vehicle.
As a result, officers confirmed that the 31-year-old female driver of the Geo and the 64-year-old male driver of the BMW died in the crash. Then, paramedics transported the 38-year-old Yamaha driver, a Ridgecrest resident, to Kern Medical with major injuries. The Kern County Sheriff’s patrol vehicle driver, 41-year-old Bakersfield resident, and Deputy Amanda Plugge, was not hurt in the crash.
Moreover, officers withheld the identity of the deceased, pending notification to the next of kin.
At this time, the events leading to the crash remained unclear. When additional information becomes available, the public will be notified.
Due to limited information, the CHP continued to investigate the crash.
