Julio Lopez Dies in Highway 99 Vehicle Crash [Turlock, CA]

Turlock, CA (August 03, 2021) – On Friday, 40-year-old Julio Lopez of Turloc, died in a vehicle crash on Highway 99 involving Anthony Silva.

The fatal accident took place at about 3 p.m. at Fulkerth Road.

Lopez was northbound in the middle lane at the highway when a vehicle from slow lane attempted to make a lane change into the fast lane.

A Turlock man was killed Friday afternoon when his SUV was struck by a speeding car traversing two lanes of traffic on Highway 99.

Investigating officers said Silva was driving a 2015 Toyota when he tried to change lanes. The right front of his vehicle crashed the left rear of Lopez’ SUV.

As a result, his SUV went off the freeway and down a dirt embankment toward the Fulkerth Road northbound onramp.

The SUV overturned and hit a 2007 Dodge on the onramp, driven by 31-year-old Turlock man, Benjamin Rojas.

Lopez was thrown form his vehicle and the officers found him lying on the onramp.

Right away, paramedics rushed him to Doctors Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Meanwhile, Rojas, Silva and 23-year-old Alexis Clements, also of Turlock, who was riding in Silva’s car, were not injured in the crash.

Officers said speeding was a factor in this accident, but investigators do not know yet how fast Silva was going prior to the accident.

Authorities are investigating if reckless driving caused the fatal crash.
