Baby and Multiple Others Injured in Two-Car Collision near Arlington: Carterina Roy, Calena Roy, and Judy Bush
STANWOOD, WA (April 26, 2018) – Four people, including a one-year-old baby, were injured in an accident that took place on Interstate 5, early Thursday afternoon.
Around 1:00 PM, troopers from the Washington State Patrol and emergency personnel responded to the scene of the tragic collision in the southbound lanes of the 5 Freeway, near Milepost 212.
19-year-old Caterina Roy of Sumas was driving a 1999 Infiniti QX4southbound on the freeway, when the left rear tire blew. The SUV lost control and collided with a southbound Pontiac Grand Am, driven by 65-year-old Judy Bush. The Pontiac came to a rest on the right shoulder, while the Infiniti swerved off the road and rolled down an embankment, coming to a stop on its passenger side.
Bush sustained unknown injuries and was to the Providence Hospital for treatment. A 1-year-old baby girl from Ferndale that was sitting in a car seat in the back of Roy’s car, was ejected from the SUV. She was airlifted to the Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, and was listed to be in serious condition. Another passenger, 21-year-old Calena Roy of Ferndale, also sustained injured and was transported to Providence, alongside Caterina.
Trooper Heather Axtman stated that all three people in the SUV were wearing restraints at the time of the collision. Officials shut down the northbound lanes of the 5 Freeway, so the helicopter ambulance could land. No other information has been released while the investigation continues.
