Juan Ortiz Involved in Deadly 210 Freeway Pedestrian Crash Near East Highland Avenue

SAN BERNARDINO, CA (May 30, 2019) – A pedestrian lost his life Wednesday after a tractor-trailer struck him on the East Highland Avenue off-ramp from the 210 Freeway.

The deadly incident unfolded around 11:30 a.m. According to Sgt. Bryon Robinson, an unidentified pedestrian, described as a 57-year-old man from Pasadena, was on the freeway for unknown reasons.

A tractor-trailer, driven by Juan Carlos Ortiz, began slowly exiting in the No. 1 lane when the Pasadena man lost balance and fell backward. Unfortunately, he fell into the 47-year-old man’s path of travel before the semi-truck ran him over with the left rear tires.

The man died instantly, say reports. Authorities plan to release his identity once his family has been properly notified.

Anyone with vital information concerning this case should call Officer K. Roney at the San Bernardino CHP Office at (909) 383-4247.
