2 Killed and Martin Celis Injured in Two-Vehicle Collision at Wooley Road
OXNARD, CA (September 3, 2018) – Two people died and a third person was critically injured in a two-vehicle crash on Victoria Avenue, late Monday evening. The deceased victims were later identified as 19-year-old Juan Cruz from Oxnard and 20-year-old Karisa Serrato of Port Hueneme.
The fatal collision occurred at around 11:30 PM between two cars at the intersection of Victoria Avenue and Wooley Road. Oxnard Police found a 1991 Pontiac Firebird and a 2006 Lexus GS 430 that had crashed.
The Firebird, carrying three people, went off road and hit a large palm tree.
The driver, Cruz was pronounced dead at the scene. Serrato, a passenger in the vehicle, was taken to a local hospital in critical condition, where she later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead. Another passenger, 19-year-old Martin Celis of Oxnard, sustained critical injuries and was listed in critical but stable condition at the hospital.
Officials stated that the Firebird was speeding and crashed into the Lexus that was headed the same direction. The 34-year-old driver of the Lexus was not injured and stayed at the scene. The area was closed for several hours after the accident.
Authorities did not immediately announce if alcohol or drugs were involved in the incident. Oxnard police are still investigating the incident.
