Juan Chavez Hurt in 2-Vehicle Crash on Highway 1 [Santa Cruz, CA]

Santa Cruz, CA (August 18, 2023) On Wednesday, 43-year-old Juan Chavez of Palo Alto, and 79-year-old David Barnes of Aptos were hurt after a 2-vehicle crash on Highway 1.

According to the CHP, the DUI accident happened in the area of Highway 1, just north of North Branciforte Avenue.

Reports say that Barnes on a northbound 1996 Acura Integra collided with Chavez’s northbound white 2015 Toyota Corolla. The crash sent both vehicles into the guardrails, afterward both vehicles overturned.

Officials say that Barnes sustained serious injures after being ejected from his vehicle, while Juan Chavez sustained moderate injuries. Medics transported both motorists to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center.

Moreover, authorities arrested David Barnes on felony DUI.
