Joseph Nicholas Piasentin Suspected of Being Under the Influence of Whippets in a Hit and Run Crash
Carson City, NV (August 20, 2020) – On Wednesday, 35-year-old Joseph Nicholas Piasentin was taken into custody for suspicion of a hit and run causing injury.
Additionally, police cited him for DUI of drugs, failure to render aid, and failure to maintain a lane of travel.
Moreover, authorities arrested Piasentin at 5 p.m. in the 300 block of West Nye following a hit and run crash that happened near the intersection of North Carson Street and Arrowhead Drive.
Initially, police said they received a report about a black pickup fleeing the scene of a crash on Arrowhead. Officers did a preliminary investigation of the crash.
Later, authorities said one of the drivers of the vehicle felt dizzy and nauseous but refused medical treatment. Tow trucks took both vehicles from the scene.
Shortly after, authorities said that an eyewitness saw the suspect vehicle and followed them to the 300 block of West Nye.
The Black Pickup
A Police officer went to the location and saw a single occupant in the truck. The pickup had significant front-end damage with glass from one of the victim vehicles is on its hood.
The officer said the driver appeared to be under the influence. He had a silver canister in his hands called “whippets,” a form of inhalant used as a recreational drug.
Authorities informed the driver that witnesses saw him fleeing an accident which he was involved in. In response, the driver said he was just looking for a safe place to park so he could call the police.
Then, the driver failed a field sobriety test.
Consequently, the police arrested the man for suspicion of DUI drugs and hit and run with injury.
Additionally, the police found 30 to 40 empty cans of CO2, a box of unused canisters, marijuana pipe in the glove compartment,
Authorities took the suspect to the Carson Tahoe Hospital for a blood draw.
