2 Killed after Speeding Car Crashes into Parked Vehicles near Devonshire Street
NORTHRIDGE, CA (July 5, 2019) – Authorities confirmed the death of two people after a chase ended in a multi-vehicle crash on Reseda Boulevard, early Friday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident started at about 1:08 AM. An officer began pursuing a suspect, identified as 24-year-old Joseph Robert Carretero, who fled during a traffic stop for fraudulent registration. This made the officer suspect that Carretero drove a stolen 1997 Toyota Paseo.
The officer had to stop the chase due to high speeds but closely followed behind. A short time later, the Toyota lost control and crashed into two vehicles in a CVS Pharmacy parking lot.
The impact of the crash ejected Carretero from his vehicle, causing fatal injuries. Meanwhile, a 50-year-old woman inside a parked Toyota RAV4 suffered major injuries. Emergency responders rushed her to Dignity Health-Northridge Hospital Medical Center, where she later died.
A passenger in the Paseo also sustained life-threatening injuries and was rushed to Northridge Hospital for treatment. Authorities did not provide further details about the passenger’s current condition.
We at Sweet Lawyers offer our heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased woman and Joseph Carretero. May they both rest in peace.
