Pedestrian Killed by Vehicle in Possible Racing Incident near Edinger Avenue

SANTA ANA, CA (October 25, 2018) – A man was killed in a pedestrian crash in the 1800 block of Cedar Street on Thursday evening. He was later identified as 68-year-old Jose Martinez, a resident on Santa Ana.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision took place at approximately 7:36 PM, near Edinger Avenue.

A preliminary investigation indicated the vehicle struck the pedestrian before it hit five other vehicles in a possible street racing incident.

Martinez was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he died as a result of the injuries sustained when hit by the vehicle. A neighbor said the victim, a husband and father of three, operated a food truck and lived on the street where the crash happened.

The 19-year-old driver remained on the site and cooperated with authorities. Police did not believe alcohol or drugs were involved, but investigated if street racing was a factor in the incident. They received reports of speeding vehicles in the area prior to the crash. They are investigating if a possible second car fled the scene. Additional information will be released once it becomes available.

We at Sweet Law Group offer our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Jose Martinez. May he rest in peace.
