HAWTHORNE, CA (October 6, 2020) – Friday morning, 15-year-old Jose Luis Garcia sustained injuries in a hit-and-run crash on Doty Avenue.
 
Moreover, the bicycle accident happened at around 7:30 a.m. on Doty Avenue and Rosecrans Avenue in Hawthorne.
 
Jose Garcia rode his bike north across Rosecrans Avenue using a marked crosswalk on Doty Avenue. However, an eastbound car in the left lane of eastbound Rosecrans Avenue struck him while driving at a high rate of speed.
 
As a result, Jose Luis Garcia sustained a major head injury and broken right arm. He also broke his left leg from the knee down and fractured ankles and feet. Responders transported him to a local hospital in serious condition.
 
Meanwhile, the driver did not stop. According to police, the suspect vehicle was a white four-door Toyota, possibly a Camry.
 
Additionally, police said that the vehicle probably has extensive front-end and front windshield damage.
 
The authorities urge anyone with information about the crash to contact 911 or the Hawthorne Police Department at (310) 349-2700.
 
Moreover, Luis Garcia’s mother, said Jose was walking her to the bus for a job interview.
 
Police claim the car is a Toyota Corolla, or possibly a Camry, with serious damage in the front and to the windshield.
