42-Year-Old Santa Paula Man Fatally Injured in DUI Crash near East Vineyard Avenue, Castro Margarito Arrested
SATICOY, CA (October 10, 2018) – A man was killed Wednesday afternoon following a suspected DUI crash near East Vineyard Avenue. The victim was later identified as 42-year-old Jose Jesus Medina Cruz, a resident of Santa Paula.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident took place at about 1:35 PM in front of a State Ready Mix gravel yard.
A sedan, driven by 28-year-old Castro Margarito, was heading west on Highway 118 when it collided head-on with a semitrailer in a left-turn lane.
Medina Cruz, who was a passenger inside the sedan, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders. Meanwhile, Margarito was taken to the Ventura County Medical Center for treatment of moderate injuries. He was then booked into the Ventura County jail on suspicion of felony driving under the influence and causing injury.
An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the crash and to identify other possible contributing factors. Anyone who may have witnessed the collision is asked to contact the CHP at (805) 662-2640. Additional information will be released to the public once it becomes available.
