Men Die in San Rafael Solo-Vehicle Collision
San Rafael, CA (September 18, 2023) – At about 7 a.m. on Saturday, Jose Gonzalez and Gaytan Hernandez, both 21-years-old, were killed in a collision at the San Rafael Canal.
A witness said the vehicle Gonzalez and Hernandez were riding was traveling at 70 mph. The vehicle drove into the waterway at the end of Canal Street.
The San Rafael Fire Department and Southern Marin Fire Department Dive Team immediately responded to the accident and recovered the two men from the submerged vehicle.
Sadly, Jose Gonzalez and Gaytan Hernandez died in this accident.
A preliminary investigation pending toxicology reports from the Marin County Coroner’s Office, indicated that alcohol may have played a role in the fatal crash.
