Whitewater, CA (March 13, 2025) – 25-year-old John Hernandez of Thousand Palms was arrested early Wednesday morning after a fatal DUI crash on Interstate 10.

According to authorities, the deadly incident happened near Highway 62.

Reports say that the suspected DUI crash claimed the life of a 28-year-old man.

Authorities say John Hernandez was driving a 2024 Honda Civic eastbound when he lost control, causing the vehicle to overturn.

Emergency responders arrived shortly after the crash and pronounced the passenger, a Cathedral City resident, dead at the scene. No other vehicles were involved.

Investigators determined that Hernandez was under the influence at the time of the crash. He sustained injuries and was taken to a trauma center before being arrested on suspicion of DUI gross vehicular manslaughter.
