Two Killed, Five Others Injured in Orinda Head-On Crash on Highway 24

ORINDA, CA (July 1, 2019) – A passenger and another man died after a head-on crash in Orinda on Sunday, June 30.

The California Highway Patrol reported that the accident happened at around 1:52 am on Highway 24. The head-on crash involved a silver Saturn Vue and a black Toyota Camry.

According to the primary investigation, it appears that the 25-year-old driver of the Saturn together with his male passenger John Doe drove the wrong way on Highway 24. They traveled eastbound in the westbound lanes between Fish Ranch Road and Wilder Road.

At that same time, the 25-year-old male driver of the Toyota from Daly City drove in the westbound direction on Highway 24 with his four male passengers. After that, the vehicles crashed head-on and caused catastrophic damage.

One male passenger died at the scene. Paramedics transported the driver of the Saturn to John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek. The paramedics initially listed him with major injuries. However, the second fatal victim later died of his injuries.

Responders transported the driver of the Toyota by helicopter to Kaiser Hospital in Vacaville with major injuries. In addition, all four other passengers of the Toyota were rushed to local hospitals with major injuries as well.

Officials believe that alcohol and/or drugs are a contributing factor with the driver from the Saturn in this collision. The driver of the Toyota is not suspected of alcohol or drugs.

During this delicate time, we would like to extend our deepest condolences to the loved ones and friends of John Doe and the other deceased person.
