Joel Westley Acker Arrested, Janet Alderman and Lorraine Gilbert Injured in DUI Head-On Car Accident [Sonora, CA]

2 Hurt and 1 Arrested in Sonora Car Accident

 
SONORA, CA (April 29, 2019) – Two women suffered injuries while authorities arrested a man after a DUI head-on crash on Tuolumne Road on April 24.
 
The crash occurred just after 4:00 p.m. west of Hess Avenue. 29-year-old Joel Westley Acker drove west in a 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 westbound while 67-year-old Janet L. Alderman traveled east in a 2001 Ford F-150 eastbound.
 
CHP spokesperson Faustino Pulido said that Acker went off the roadway into a drainage ditch. He then overcorrected, leading his pickup to the double yellow line into the path of Alderman’s truck. The two cars then crashed head-on.
 
As a result, Acker suffered minor injuries. Meanwhile, an ambulance took Alderman to Adventist Health Sonora. Medics airlifted Alderman’s passenger, Lorraine L. Gilbert, to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto.
 
Alderman and Gilbert both sustained moderate injuries. Fortunately, a third passenger, 67-year-old Thomas Curtis, didn’t suffer any injuries.
 
Authorities arrested Acker for drunk driving and causing bodily injury with a bail set to $25,000.
