Joel Perales Dies After Being Struck by Possible DUI Driver at South Commerce Boulevard and South Eastern Avenue

 
COMMERCE, CA (December 4, 2018) – A postal worker was fatally struck by an out-of-control vehicle Monday morning at South Commerce Boulevard and South Eastern Avenue.
 
According to family members, Joel Perales had the day off but picked up a shift to save up money for the holidays. Around 10 a.m., at the intersection of South Commerce Boulevard and South Eastern Avenue, investigators learned that the father of five was standing at the back of his postal truck, pulling out mail and packages, when he was hit by a vehicle that had reportedly lost control.
 
Footage of the crash displayed a white coupe lodged underneath the postal truck. The force also pushed the UPS truck against a nearby big rig.
 
According to a witness, the driver appeared to be speeding at the time before losing control and crashing into the postal truck.
 
Perales perished in the crash and two other people suffered minor injuries. The driver might have been under the influence, and a blood test is in progress to see if he or she had any drugs or alcohol in his system.
 
The crash remains under investigation and in the meantime, a GoFundMe page has been created to help save funds for Perales’ memorial service.
