Motorcyclist Dies after Thrown Over Carquinez Bridge in Crockett
CROCKETT, CA (September 22, 2019) – A man was killed in a motorcycle crash Sunday night on 80 Freeway in Contra Costa County.
The crash happened around 6:30 p.m. along the eastbound lanes of the freeway near the Pomona Street on-ramp.
According to the CHP, a black Harley-Davidson motorcycle rear-ended a dark-colored Toyota Prius. The impact caused the rider to lose control and fall off the side of Carquinez Bridge.
The victim then landed on the train tracks below the bridge. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The Contra Costa County Coroner’s Office identified him as Jesus Berrious II, 33, of Castro Valley.
A witness told officers that the Toyota was speeding prior to the crash.
The driver of Toyota remained on the freeway and was unharmed.
The California Highway Patrol is overseeing the investigation.
