Jesus Ballejo Hit and Killed while Crossing the Street in Riverside

84-Year-Old Man Fatally Struck by Vehicle at Market and 1st Streets

 
RIVERSIDE, CA (April 22, 2019) – An elderly man was hit and killed while crossing the street Monday morning in Riverside.
 
The Riverside Police and Riverside Fire Departments responded to Market and First streets at around 7:15 a.m.
 
Officials identified the victim as Jesus Gutierrez Ballejo, 84, of Riverside.
 
Ballejo was in the crosswalk on Market Street when the driver of a Toyota Tacoma pickup initiated a left turn to go northbound on Market Street from eastbound 1st Street.
 
A passerby or a witness at the scene performed CPR on the Ballejo.
 
The driver of the vehicle immediately pulled over and his passenger called 911.
 
Paramedics arrived within a few minutes and found Ballejo in critical condition but fighting for his life. They provided emergency care and transported him to Riverside Community Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries about four hours later.
 
No arrest has been made at this time, but investigation of this incident is still ongoing.
