1 Killed and 1 Injured in Hit-and-Run Collision on Sherman Way and Vineland Avenue
SUN VALLEY, CA (June 7, 2018) – A man was killed and a woman was critically injured in a hit-and-run crash on Sherman Way, early Thursday morning. The deceased victim was identified by the LA County Coroner’s Office as 23-year-old Jesus Alberto Torres.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the incident occurred around 3:25 AM in the area of Sherman Way and Vineland Avenue. A Nissan Murano was speeding westbound on Sherman Way when it lost control.
It crashed into a nearby vehicle, a parked car, and a light pole. The impact of the collision caused the second vehicle to smash into another car. Reports stated that the other parked cars did not have any occupants inside of them.
A total of four people were in the Nissan. Two of the passengers were ejected, and the driver and another passenger from the same vehicle fled on foot. Debris and clothing were scattered along the roadway immediately after the collision, prompting officers to place evidence markers around the crash site.
Torres was pronounced dead at the scene and the 37-year-old woman who was ejected from the Nissan was hospitalized with injuries that are not considered life-threatening. There is no update on her current medical condition.
A GoFundMe page was set up to help Torres’ family with funeral expenses. They held a vigil at the site of the incident in his memory on Thursday evening.
