27-Year-Old Woman Dies after being Struck by SUV near Claremont Street
PASADENA, CA (October 21, 2018) – On Sunday evening, a Pasadena woman was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver as she crossed North Fair Oaks Avenue, just north of Claremont Street. The deceased victim was later identified as 27-year-old Jessica Torres.
As per reports, the fatal incident occurred at around 7:20 PM, in the 1100 block of N Fair Oaks. Torres was crossing the street outside the crosswalk when a northbound white sports utility vehicle struck her.
According to police officials and an eyewitness, the impact sent Torres airborne before landing under a parked car. The suspect fled the scene in the SUV, driving north then east onto Washington Boulevard. It is suspected that the SUV should have substantial front-end damage.
Paramedics arrived at the scene and found Torres with major injuries and unresponsive. They were unable to revive her and she was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers later arrested 24-year-old Francisco Javier Soto-Cedillo of Pasadena, on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and felony hit-and-run. It is unclear at this time whether or not drugs and alcohol were contributing factors in the accident.
The Pasadena Police Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) closed down North Fair Oaks Avenue during the investigation from 8:00 PM Sunday until 12:45 AM Monday morning.
