Jerell Cryer and Gary Brennan Hurt in Horrific Crash on Highway 101 [San Luis Obispo, CA]

San Luis Obispo, CA (February 7, 2025) – A horrific head-on crash on Highway 101 left Jerell Cryer and Gary Brennan seriously hurt Thursday morning.

According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the disastrous crash happened at around 6:44 a.m. near the base of Cuesta Grade.

Reports say that the head-on crash severely injured the two drivers and halted southbound traffic on Highway 101 during a Thursday morning rainstorm.

Authorities say that Brennan was driving a Toyota Tundra northbound on Highway 101 when he attempted a left turn at Stage Coach Road, crossing into the path of an oncoming Chevrolet Silverado 3500 driven by Cryer. Cryer was unable to avoid the collision and struck the right side of Brennan’s vehicle.

The impact caused Cryer’s Chevrolet Silverado to roll over, spilling approximately 75 gallons of diesel fuel onto the highway and right shoulder.

Both vehicles came to a stop in the southbound lanes, trapping Brennan and Cryer inside their vehicles.

Fire crews arrived at the scene and extricated both men before transporting them to Adventist Health Sierra Vista Hospital with major injuries.

The crash brought traffic to a standstill during the morning commute, though it resumed normal flow by 11:30 a.m., according to Caltrans traffic cameras. CHP stated that alcohol is not suspected as a factor in the crash.

Authorities continue to investigate the collision and urge anyone with information to contact the CHP at 805-594-8700.
