Jeffery Hamlet Arrested after Shootout with Police on 1st Avenue [Burien, WA]

Man Involved in Burien Shootout and Carjacking Identified as Jeffery Hamlet

 
BURIEN, WA (July 29, 2019) – Authorities arrested 30-year-old Jeffery Hamlet after a police shootout near South 160th Street, Monday afternoon.
 
According to the King County Sheriff’s Office, the shootout started at about 3:40 PM. An officer confronted Hamlet during an investigation for a separate case. Then, Hamlet ran down 1st Avenue, prompting a short chase that ended after officers cornered him with a fence and a patrol car.
 
The suspect allegedly started shooting at the officers before climbing the fence and running to a nearby Arby’s. There, he allegedly carjacked someone in the drive-thru line. Hamlet attempted to flee the scene, but a deputy vehicle blocked his escape route. After a 45-minute standoff, he turned himself over to the authorities.
 
Paramedics transported Hamlet to Highline Hospital with injuries sustained in the shootout. After his release, authorities booked him into King County Jail in lieu of $500,000 bail.
 
Prosecutors charged the suspect with one count of first-degree assault, one count of first-degree robbery, and one count of second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm. Hamlet’s arraignment was scheduled for August 15.
