Javier Cortes Arrested in DUI Fatal Crash at East Donovan Road [Santa Maria, CA]

Javier Cortes in Custody, 2 Dead Following DUI Two-Vehicle Accident at East Donovan Road and North Miller Street

 
SANTA MARIA, CA (March 18, 2019) – Saturday’s DUI two-car accident at East Donovan Road and North Miller Street claimed two people’s lives and injured one victim.
 
Around 3 a.m., Santa Maria Police, Santa Maria Fire and an ambulance responded to reports of a two-car crash. Arriving crews quickly learned that intoxication played a factor in the devastation, which left two people in one car dead and a third person in critical condition.
 
According to reports, it appears the impact of the crash ejected the two fatal victims while the sole occupant of the second car – 27-year-old Javier Artemio Cortes – ended in handcuffs after police learned of his intoxication.
 
Per spokesman Lt. Russ Mengel, officers booked the Santa Maria man into the Santa Barbara County Jail on charges of DUI causing injuries and vehicular manslaughter.
 
However, at this time, the coroner’s office has yet to release the identities of the victims.
