Man Killed and Woman Hospitalized after Big Rig Crash near Twisselman Road
KERN COUNTY, CA (October 10, 2018) – A man was killed early Wednesday morning following a big rig crash on Interstate 5. The victim was later identified as 43-year-old Jason William Paul, a resident of McMinnville, Oregon.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the man’s vehicle became disabled as a result of a previous collision. He exited his car to help a trapped passenger when he was struck by a southbound big rig, near Twisselman Road.
Paul suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. Meanwhile, the passenger, identified as 27-year-old Laura Miller, was transported to the Kern Medical with major injuries. Further updates on her current medical condition were not provided.
The big rig driver, identified as Luis Salgado Jr, remained at the crash site and cooperated with investigators. Alcohol and drugs were ruled out as possible contributing factors in the fatal crash, which remains under investigation at this time. Additional information will be released once it becomes available.
