National City Hit-and-Run: Suspect Arrested After Fatal DUI Crash
National City, CA (March 9, 2025) – 27-year-old Jamal Dekwon Lee was arrested after a deadly hit-and-run on Plaza Boulevard.
According to police, the deadly crash happened at around 2 a.m. east of Palm Avenue.
Reports say that a hit-and-run suspect was arrested early Saturday after a woman was fatally struck in National City.
Police identified the suspect as Lee, who now faces charges of DUI, felony hit-and-run, and gross vehicular manslaughter.
Authorities say that a 53-year-old woman was crossing Plaza Boulevard east of Palm Avenue when a dark sedan hit her.
The driver sped away at high speed, nearly colliding with a witness. The witness followed the damaged Chrysler 200 to an apartment complex at 19th Street and F Avenue and alerted police.
Officers located the suspect’s vehicle, and shortly after, Lee exited the apartment and surrendered. He later admitted to driving under the influence, hitting the pedestrian, and fleeing the scene.
Emergency responders arrived to find the victim’s boyfriend performing CPR, but medics were unable to save her. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities shut down Plaza Boulevard between Interstate 805 and Palm Avenue for the investigation. Lee remains in custody at San Diego Central Jail on $100,000 bail and is scheduled for arraignment on Wednesday.
We extend our deepest sympathies to the family and loved ones of the victim during this difficult time in the deadly hit-and-run on Plaza Boulevard.
