Jacob Hourmouzus and Jacob Schneider Dies Due to Electrocution While Trying to Save Dog in Dixon Canal Near 80 Freeway

DIXON, CA (April 3, 2019) – Two teenage boys died Monday after being electrocuted while rescuing a dog in the Dixon Canal near the 80 Freeway.

According to reports, a group of teens near a Solano Irrigation District canal noticed a dog jump from a bridge into the canal around 12:30 p.m.

Two of the teens – 17-year-old Jacob Hourmouzus of Elk Grove and 17-year-old Jacob Schneider of Dixon –subsequently jumped in to rescue the canine. However, as they held the dog and tried reaching for the metal bridge to keep afloat, they were somehow electrocuted.

Per the Sheriff’s Office, the two teens were unable to release grip from the metal bridge, prompting a third teenage male to jump into the canal.

Hourmouzus and Schnieder were then released from the bridge and rescued by the third unidentified teen to the side of the levee.

Soon after, firefighters took over and rushed the victims to a Vacaville hospital where they died.

A Pacific Gas and Electric Co. crew arrived at the scene to deactivate the power to the energized bridge for the safety of investigators.

At this point, it is unclear how the bridge became energized, but an investigation is underway.

As for the dog, Ranger, professionals treated the canine to good health.

This is terrible news to those who knew Jacob Hourmouzus and Jacob Schneider. Our law firm sends our sympathies.
