BAKERSFIELD, CA (May 18, 2020) – In March, Ismael Arrenaviz died in a bicycle accident on Union Avenue in Bakersfield.
 
According to the Bakersfield Police Department, the crash occurred at around 11:41 a.m. After the preliminary investigation, the authorities determined that a man was heading east on Columbus Street approaching Union Avenue. However, he fell asleep while driving. When he woke up, he made a sudden steer to prevent traffic as he approached the intersection against a red light.
 
Due to this, the man’s car drove onto the sidewalk, where he hit a bicyclist later identified as Ismael Arrenaviz. The Bakersfield Police Department revealed that Arrenaviz was waiting at the corner when the crash occurred. The impact of the collision left him with fatal injuries. Meanwhile, the vehicle driver didn’t suffer any injury.
 
Following the crash, another car hit the rear of the vehicle involved in the first crash. The second collision didn’t cause any injury. The department also clarified that the driver that struck the Ismael Arrenaviz was cleared from driving under the influence.
 
Meanwhile, the family of the bicyclist identified the victim as Ismael Arrenaviz. They have set up a GoFundMe account. to pay for the expenses.
