Winton Man Dies after Car Hits His Motorcycle on Santa Fe Drive in Merced

MERCED, CA (September 20, 2019) – A man died after his motorcycle was struck by a car Friday afternoon in Merced, CHP officials said.

The crash happened around 2:26 p.m. at the intersection of Santa Fe Drive and Avenue 2.

According to the CHP, a 2016 Harley-Davidson motorcycle was traveling east on Santa Fe Drive at an unknown speed. As it approached the Avenue 2 intersection, a 2001 Nissan Altima, driven by 61-year-old Debra Ann Lay of Winton, turned left from Avenue 2 after stopping at the stop sign.

Lay failed to yield and allow her Nissan to travel into the path of the motorcycle.

As a result of the crash, the rider was ejected from his bike and died at the scene. Officers identified him as Isaias Piceno, 30, of Winton.

Lay remained on scene and cooperated with authorities.

The crash caused major rush hour traffic delays on Santa Fe Drive. All lanes were reopened roughly around 4:00 p.m.

The crash remains under investigation.
