Jose Mata Arrested After  Police Chase Crash on North Pierce Street in San Angelo

San Angelo, TX (January 30, 2025) – Jose Mata was arrested after a crash on North Pierce Street Wednesday night while attempting to evade Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) troopers.

DPS reported that around 9:15 p.m., troopers attempted a traffic stop near the eastbound frontage road of the Houston Harte Expressway. 

Instead of stopping, the driver sped off, initiating a brief chase that ended when he crashed into a house near North Pierce Street and Freeland Avenue.

After the crash, the driver, identified as 32-year-old Jose Mata, exited the disabled vehicle and fled toward the expressway. 

His attempt to escape led to another collision involving an SUV and a pickup truck.

Troopers quickly apprehended Mata without further incident. Authorities reported minor injuries from the events, and those involved received treatment before being released.

Mata now faces charges for evading arrest and has been booked into the Tom Green County Jail.
