Ines Diaz Hospitalized in North Las Vegas Car Accident
NORTH LAS VEGAS, NV (June 11, 2019) – A woman suffered injuries while her dog died in a hit-and-run crash on Carey Avenue on June 9.
Las Vegas police said the at-fault vehicle was later located on Sunday morning, after multiple community tips.
The car fled south on Lexington following the impact. As a result, it would have significant front and side damage. In addition, an airbag deployed on the passenger side.
Police said in a release they found the gold four-door Saturn sedan in the area. In addition, police located the car near Martin Luther King Boulevard and Washington Avenue.
Ines Diaz and her dog were hit by an out-of-control car around 10:00 a.m. Diaz, 32, was taken to University Medical Center in critical condition shortly after the crash. However, she has head and spinal injuries.
Diaz’s German Shepherd dog Tyger, died shortly after the accident. The dog at first survived the crash. However, Tyger had to be put down because his injuries were so severe.
The accident happened at West Carey Avenue and Lexington Street. However, Diaz was walking Tyger after working the grave yard shift at South Point Hotel and Casino.
Police believe Tyger heard the out of control driver moments before the accident. In addition, they think Tyger tried to pull Diaz out of the way.
“Investigators believe that dog heard what was coming and in turn was pulling Diaz away,” North Las Vegas Police Officer Eric Leavitt said.
The authorities arrived near Martin Luther King Boulevard and Washington Avenue. After that, they located a gold four-door Saturn sedan.
A GoFundMe was started for the woman and her dog.
