Igors Vasiljevs Killed in Pedestrian Crash on Highway 178 in Lake Isabella

Latvia Man Fatally Struck by Car on Highway 178 near Highway 155

 
LAKE ISABELLA, CA (May 5, 2019) – A man was killed in a pedestrian crash early Monday morning in Lake Isabella, authorities said.
 
The victim has been identified as Igors Vasiljevs, 27, of Latvia.
 
At around 2:35 a.m. Vasiljevs was walking in the second lane of eastbound Highway 178, just West of Highway 155 after drinking alcoholic beverages when he was struck by a car.
 
According to the CHP, a 37-year-old John Bopp was driving a white SUV eastbound at approximately 55 miles per hour when he saw the pedestrian immediately in front of his vehicle before hitting them.
 
Vasiljevs suffered major injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
 
Eastbound lanes of Highway 178 were shut down while the investigation was being conducted.
