BAKERSFIELD, CA (June 29, 2020) – Early Sunday morning, a passenger sustained injuries in a deadly single-vehicle crash that killed Hugo Ruiz on Panama Lane.
 
The Bakersfield police officers came to Panama Lane and Stine Road at around 12:30 a.m. When they arrived, they located a car involved in the fatal incident.
 
The preliminary investigation revealed that the car traveled east on Panama Lane while speeding. Afterward, the vehicle hit the center median and lost control. The car went across the opposite lanes and drove off the road. Eventually, the vehicle struck a pole.
 
The male driver succumbed to injuries at the scene. Meanwhile, responders transported a male passenger to the hospital with moderate injuries.
 
At this time, it’s still unclear whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. Furthermore, the Bakersfield Police Department will handle the crash investigation.
 
Meanwhile, the police confirmed that the incident was Bakersfield’s 15th traffic fatality in 2020.
