Hugo Hernandez Dies in Pedestrian Collision on Monterey Road Near Church Avenue
SAN MARTIN, CA (November 20, 2018) – A 66-year-old pedestrian was fatally struck by a speeding car while crossing Monterey Road at Church Avenue Friday evening.
The incident happened around 5:50 p.m. in the southbound lanes when a 2018 Jeep driven by a 43-year-old Gilroy woman was traveling at speeds of 70 to 75 mph in a 50-mph zone. The Jeep struck Hugo Hernandez as he was crossing from east to west across Monterey Road. Hernandez, of Gilroy, died in the crash.
No citations or arrests were made in the wake of the crash, according to the California Highway Patrol. At this point, it is unknown whether drugs or alcohol played a role.
