CHP Investigates Crash on Cosumnes Road in Sacramento

Sacramento, CA (April 4, 2025) – A horse died and the rider sustained major injuries in a crash on Cosumnes Road.

A vehicle struck a horse and its rider in Sacramento County on Friday evening, leaving the rider with major injuries and forcing officials to put down the horse.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 7:50 p.m. in the 9600 block of Cosumnes Road near Wilton Road in Wilton. 

Both the horse and the rider sustained serious injuries. Officials euthanized the horse at the scene, while emergency responders transported the rider to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Authorities briefly shut down the roadway and confirmed that alcohol or drugs did not play a role in the crash. 

However, officials have not yet determined what led to the incident.
