1 Dead in Galveston Auto Accident on Seawall and 42nd Street

GALVESTON, TX (January 2, 2025) – On New Year’s Day, a person died in a horrific wrong-way crash on Seawall and 42nd Street.

The two-vehicle crash occurred at around 1:00 a.m. on Seawall at 42nd Street.

Investigators reported that a driver traveling westbound in an eastbound lane without headlights collided with a vehicle carrying a family of four.

Reports confirmed that the wrong-way driver was pronounced dead at the scene. All four family members in the struck vehicle were transported to the UTMB Galveston emergency room, with two reported in critical condition, according to Galveston PD Public Information Officer Kurt Koopman.

The Galveston County Medical Examiner responded to the scene, and it remains unclear whether alcohol played a role in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.

Seawall Boulevard was closed for several blocks overnight Wednesday during the investigation but has since reopened.
