PIRU, CA (August 14, 2024) – Late Monday night, a horrific pedestrian crash on Highway 126 East killed 1 person.

The crash occurred just before 11:00 p.m. on Highway 126 east of Piru, California Highway Patrol officials said.
The incident resulted in the closure of the highway’s right eastbound lane for approximately five hours. According to a CHP news release, a 54-year-old woman from Fillmore was driving eastbound in a 2022 Jeep Wagoneer when she struck a pedestrian in the left lane. The driver, who was alone in the vehicle, remained at the scene and was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs. She was unharmed.

The pedestrian was thrown into the right lane after being hit and was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity, age, and place of residence were not immediately available, and authorities are still determining whether he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

The crash happened in a rural area west of Sharp Ranch, near the county line. Authorities believe other vehicles may have been involved. Anyone with information is urged to contact the CHP’s Moorpark-area office at 805-553-0800.
