2 People Dead in Monterey County Traffic Accident on Highway 1 near Molera Road

MONTEREY COUNTY, CA (May 24, 2023) – Tuesday afternoon, a horrific head-on crash on Highway 1 near Molera Road killed two people.

The incident happened at around 12:37 p.m. on Highway 1 near Molera Road.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a northbound black GMC veered into the southbound lanes for still unknown reasons and collided head-on with a southbound blue Mazda SUV. Then, several other vehicles crashed behind the Mazda after the initial crash.

Moreover, officers confirmed that two occupants of the Mazda died in the collision.

Furthermore, the crash blocked Highway 1 but has long since reopened.

At this time, the total number of victims and vehicles involved remained unclear. When additional information became available, the public will be notified.
