Vehicle Involved in Hit-and-Run Accident near Santa Monica Boulevard
HOLLYWOOD, CA (May 7, 2018) – One person was killed in a fiery crash on the 101 Freeway, early Monday morning. The victim had been involved in a hit-and-run collision before crashing into a concrete barrier, authorities stated.
As per initial reports, the deadly accident happened around 2:05 AM on the northbound Hollywood Freeway, just north of Santa Monica Boulevard. A white Ford Fusion, driven by an unidentified driver, was traveling at high speeds after fleeing from a van it previously hit, when it struck a concrete barrier.
It was noted that the van was following the white car and watched the fiery crash unfold. The impact of the collision caused the vehicle to burst into flames, trapping an unnamed passenger inside. The driver was able to get out of the burning car and was seen sitting in the dirt on the right shoulder.
Officers confirmed that the passenger trapped in the vehicle had died, while the conditions of the other people involved were not immediately available.
CHP issued a SigAlert at around 2:35 AM and all of the northbound lanes on Hollywood Freeway were temporarily shut down. At 2:54 AM, the fast lane was reopened to the public. The number 2 lane followed and was reopened at about 5:18 AM.
