Darwin Maurice Caldwell Arrested after Crashing into Home, Killing Helen Reeder and Bicyclist on 55th Avenue
Marysville, WA (September 21, 2020) – A fatal crash on 55th Avenue left Helen Reeder, 97, and a male bicyclist, 25 dead in Marysville, Washington.
The incident happened on August 29 at around 2 a.m. in the 8400 block of 55th Avenue.
The report said that 42-year-old Darwin Caldwell of Marysville was impaired while driving a 1971 Chevrolet Impala.
The driver struck a 25-year-old bicyclist before crashing into the Reeder’s house.
The Marysville Police Department said that the vehicle was “completely embedded” in the house.
A police officer who was called to a different incident saw the Impala traveling recklessly minutes before the crash.
The officer said the Impala was doughnut driving at the intersection of 51st Avenue NE and 84th Street NE.
The Marysville man explained that four men with a gun in another car chased him. However, the officer wrote, “I knew in fact that there was no other car in the area chasing him like he was telling me.”
